SEO stands for search engine optimisation and it basically refers to the methods that we use to help your website rank as high as possible in search engine result pages - Like Google.

So how do you actually focus your efforts into SEO? 

The best way is to analyse your site on two separate levels.

The first level is technical - it involves indexability, speed optimisation, best practice coding, website architecture and UX design.

Number two exists at a content level.

For content optimisation, the first step is identifying the keyword or phrase you want to rank for, e.g. ‘tax returns’.

Ensuring you have a page that corresponds to that keyword or phrase is essential, such as a tax returns services page.

Make sure the page has the keyword or phrase, and other associated keywords, with it. For ‘tax returns’ things such as ‘ATO’ and ‘accountant’ would be appropriate examples. Including these keywords and phrases throughout your page is vital.

As you go about this it’s important to always remember your goal -to provide the user with value and help them find a solution to what it is they’re searching for.

How to increase SEO traffic

Now, it’s time to optimise your page title and description, this is what appears in the Google search results. 

The page title needs to feature your keyword phrase prominently but it also needs to sell your offer so that your customers are compelled to click on it.

The two main metrics Google uses to determine page relevance are click through rate and bounce rate.

The number of people that click on your listing defines your click-through rate and whether they return straight back to Google after landing on your page represents your bounce rate.

The final thing to focus on is internal and external links to your page. This will help indicate to Google that it's a worthwhile resource
